Going on this diet is supposed to help you eliminate about 13 pounds, most of it belly fat, in just a fortnight. It’s no surprise that people around the world were enthusiastic about it. This  almost sounds too good to be true.

PHASE 1: Eliminate as much carbohydrates as possible. This means no potatoes, bread, white rice, pasta or sweet foods. You may have a small amount of broccoli and cabbage which are low in GI. At this time the following should not be missing from your plate: fish, eggs, low fat cheese, lean meat and olive oil. This step spans over two weeks in which, provided you follow the above-mentioned recommendations, you can expect to lose between 8 and 13 pounds.

PHASE 2: Weight loss in this stage will not be as quick as the first two weeks and the time limit for this stage is until you reach your weight loss goals! Typically, you may only lose around 1-2 lbs per week. The types of food to focus on during this stage are low GI foods. For instance, you can have low fat milk, pasta, fruit and whole grain cereal.

PHASE 3: This should turn into your lifestyle! The idea being that you would have changed your eating habits for good and won’t have weight fluctuations anymore. This is your reward for making healthy choices.

This nutritional program also offers the advantage of allowing you to have as much food on your plate as you need. Eat three times daily until you are full and snack if you have to with healthy alternatives such as nuts for example.

In this case, like for so many other slimming programs, the most difficult time is in the first week, when you need to get your body used to a smaller amount of carbs, which is the main challenge faced when trying to lose weight. Determination is needed to make it through this, and you should also know that during the transition you will experience lethargy.

Be prepared that the rapid weight loss will most likely slow down after the initial 2 weeks are complete. You will still be able to reach your goal, but not at such a fast pace, so you should be ready for this reality.
